KAY THOMPSON - CHARISMA? A DEFINATE "NO!"

Over the years I have read and reread so much about this woman.... There`s no denying that as a teacher of style, as a song and music arranger, writer and friend she was a hard one to match.....

But when I finally saw her in FUNNY FACE 1957 with Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn I had heard stories that she wiped them out......

Wiped them out????

Well she IS there, but the camera just DOES NOT LOVE HER! Period. No wonder this is the only film she made.... Her dancing, her role..... all good..... But the camera fails to pick up her face.... The same happened when I saw her "I Love a Violin"-number from a mid-60s TV-show....

She may have been great on STAGE, but sadly Miss Liza May..... she does NOT wipe Fred Astaire out of the stage as you say in your new cd "Liza`s at the Palace". You do honey, your godmother didn`t.....

So to my mind this woman excelled as a contributer to the stars and she may very well have been GREAT on the stage; BUT her efforts on celluloid.... let there be silence......

NB: The fact that she was introduced to Judy while making Meet Me in St. Louis, was Liza`s godmother in -46, helped Judy with style etc for her Palladium opening in -51 and FINALLY consulted Judy`s best TV-show - the 1962 Montreoux-winning effort with Sinatra and Dean Martin and was THERE for Judy`s children when they lost their Mama in 1969, may be the reason why for Garland daughters still have such affection for her.......
