A CURSE ON THE MOVIE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS?

It might look like that...Jacqueline Susann`s book and later the filmversion described tragic personal events...

Yet the cast of the 1967 movie suffered the most...

1. Jackie Susann herself died of breastcancer like Sharon Tate`s Jennifer North does in the movie.

2. Patty Duke(who played the neurotic Neely O`Hara) has suffered from numerous mental breakdowns and is described as both a manic depressive and/or having a bipolar disorder.

3. Barbara Parkins(like Anne Wells) semiretired after the film and her career has been for the most part silent since the mid 90s....

4. Judy Garland felt the issues described in the film too close and couldn`t handle the role of a tough primadonna(Helen Lawson) who never needed pills or alcohol. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD THINK JUDY WAS BELIEVEBLE IN SUCH A ROLE? She was fired through bad temper and died in 1969 at the age of 47 from an accidental overdose of sleeping pills...

5. Susan Hayward replaced Garland - did one more movie and was to die from a brain tumer in 1975. This originated from the shooting of the film The Conqueror 1955 with John Wayne, directed by Dick Powell. It was shot too close for comfort near nuclear testbombing in Nevada and the three was all to die from cancer - as were almost 90 other people from the cast and crew.

6. Sharon Tate(eight and a half month pregnant) was to die at the age of 26 in 1969 when she and four others were slaughtered in her house by members of the Manson-family.

If anyone wrote a novel like this - NO ONE WOULD TAKE TO IT..... Yup, reality in some cases surpasses fiction....
