a homage to the film DEN HEMMELIGHETSFULLE LEILIGHETEN

I have known about this film for 30 years, but by some laziness, stupidity - you name it - I have never bothered to watch it..

However last Tuesday I finally bought it and it took me by surprise. The dialogue, acting, editing, scenary is a treasure to behold...

I never knew Tancred Ibsen had this in him.... this is a film of international proportions...

Ola Isene and Sonja Wigert heads a stellar cast and they all but deliver:-)

Ibsen`s camera angles, editing and montages are suprisingly fresh and artistic; but he is blessed by the beauty, style and acting from Miss Wigert.

This is Sonja at her dramatic best. As a spectator you fall in love with her fragile Dora Danielsen. Her vibrant, expressive face and voice is quite evident in this Norwegian film. She did this just as easy and good in Swedish films 1939-1955(among the best Fallet Ingegerd Bremssen 1942 & Blod och eld 1945), but I had no idea she blessed our filmhistory with this 1948 performance....

You`ll fall just as easily for Isene`s complex and lonely man who takes over an apartment only to find out that he will have to withdraw from his own self and replace the shoes of its late dead owner...

At first Sonja`s Dora appears as a helpless little creature.... but you can also see her character as the Angel of Death.... using letters and heartbreaking stories that both deceives the audience and the male protagonist...

....luring men into her web like a spiderwoman... letting the men think they create and support her, while in fact, she uses her fragility to get her man and one by one they diminish in stature, loses their self awareness,,, and eventually kill themselves when their soul has gone to oblivion....

...and then... on to the next man.... and on and on.... while the apartment stays there like a fortress of Death,,, HER fortress,,,,

The men reach out and try to protect the Butterfly....

The Butterfly of Death....

This is a repeated pleasure and I hope my homage does it credit.

The photographs are by yours truly hehe
